Creating a new Derry-Londonderry through the Arts
Jessica Caldwell (WIP Class of 2012)
The Playhouse Theatre, Derry-Londonderry
“This city has taken huge strides to come out from under a shadow. It so exciting to be part of that.”
WIP gave me the confidence to broaden my horizons.
Jessica Caldwell joined the WIP Class of 2012 as a student of Law at Queen’s University Belfast. “I was feeling nervous about what I was doing. I knew law wasn’t for me, but I wasn’t sure what was going to be a fit.”
Through her experience in the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, and with her experience with her classmates, Jessica took on a different path. “WIP really gave me the confidence to broaden my horizon.”
Today Jessica works with one of the leading Arts organizations on the island, the Playhouse Theatre in Derry-Londonderry. The Playhouse is an award-winning theatre which provides a neutral space for cultural expression in a city long divided. “It is my responsibility to create the atmosphere when you walk through the door. To make sure that this is a shared space.”
