Our partners & supporters

The Washington Ireland Program relies on a generous and committed network of supporters, friends, and partners. Without them, we could not do the work we do. This supporter community ensures WIP can deliver on our mission to Support, develop and Inspire generations of leaders who are committed to creating a peaceful and prosperous future for Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Our Work Placement Partners

Our Work Placement Partners are a vital and much-valued part of the Washington Ireland Program supporter community. Each summer, they provide participants in our Emerging Leaders Program with a high-profile work placement opportunity in Washington DC, offering hands-on learning, invaluable insights, and numerous opportunities for leadership development. They also offer a unique six-week remote project for participants in our WIP Academy.

Our Work Placement Partners come from a wide variety of sectors. Previous placements have included Capitol Hill Offices, businesses, PR firms, research laboratories, non-profits, and advocacy organizations.

Our Service Partners

Our Service Partners are a cornerstone of our Emerging Leaders programs, offering exceptional insights into service in a US setting and embodying WIP’s core principles of service and leadership. They are also at the core of the AMBIT learning experience.

As community-based organizations tackling a range of difficult societal and community-based issues across the Washington DC area, they provide WIP participants with a unique perspective on the kinds of complex societal issues impacting communities in the US, Northern Ireland, and Ireland.

Host Family Partners

The WIP host family experience is a fundamental aspect of the Emerging Leaders Program and a major highlight of the WIP experience for many participants.

Each summer our Host Families take our participants into their homes and families, offering a unique insight into what it is like to live in the Washington DC area, not just to visit. Providing a ‘home from home’, our Host Family Partners also ensure our participants gain a deeper understanding of US culture and are integrated into local community life. WIP students and host families often form connections that last long after the program has ended and some host families have been part of the WIP supporter community for over 20 years.
